It takes lots of people to bring this event together! We'd love a few more helpful hands. Click the green button to the right to visit our Sign Up Genius. Volunteer for 1 hour, 3 hours or all day! This is a great way to earn some Community Service hours for CPS and CCHS students! |
Here's how it works. Clear out all those garage, basement and attic items you no longer use/want. (No junk and nothing broken or hazardous.) Bring them to the Swap Meet, 8:00 am to noon on May 15, 2021. We're moving under the solar panels at the Carlisle Public Schools on Church Street! After meeting with our screeners, you will proceed to designated areas to distribute your items, wearing your face mask, of course. Gently used books should be separated into children's and adult's at the designated areas. Check out the map here. (No textbooks, please.) Leave that (working) old VCR under the electronics sign and place those old dishes at the small household goods area, etc.
Then come back after lunch to 'shop'! While wearing your mask and keeping at a safe distance, walk through the areas and take what you want! Linger, but not too long. We cannot have too many people on site at the same time, so we need to be sure everyone gets a chance to find a treasure or two. Drop Off - 8:00 am to Noon Please don't bring items for the Swap Meet in the afternoon. We have limited time to share your left overs with your friends and neighbors. Items brought in the afternoon will likely be sent back home with you. Be sure to bring items that others would actually want to take home. We've been pretty relaxed with these guidelines in the past. Unfortunately it resulted in having to transport several truckloads of items, that were really trash, to the Transfer Station at the end of the day. It was an immense amount of work for volunteers and staff from the Department of Public Works. Our screeners will check your items as you drop them off to make sure that the items at the Swap Meet are of potential use to someone else. We will ask you to take items that cannot be reused to the Transfer Station. It would be most helpful to us and easier for you if you sorted your donations from trash prior to dropping off your donations at the Swap Meet. Good reasons to take it to the Transfer Station instead:
Free Shopping - 1:00 to 4:00 pm Visit the Swap Meet between 1:00 and 4:00, with a bag and your mask, to "shop" for any treasures to take home. No need to ask, just take what you see, it's all free. (Unless someone else is holding it!). Parking will be at FRS, the faculty lot near the Plaza, in front of Spalding Field, along Church and School Streets, etc. Please observe disabled spaces near the school so everyone can enjoy Swap Meet III! Only charitable organizations collecting useful items will park in the parking lot. Folks collecting larger items will be permitted to drive in to load their treasure! Then what happens? The Carlisle Cheer Project has arrangements with several charitable organizations: Habitat for Humanity, More than Words, the Bike Connector, Staples and Cradles to Crayons, among others. Please let us know if you are aware of an organization that might want to take some items for their use! Left over items will be boxed up for these organizations. Items that are not taken by 'shoppers' or charitable organizations will, sadly, be added to the town's solid waste at the Transfer Station. How can you help? There are a couple ways you can help us out at the Swap Meet:

FAQsWhat do electronics and toys have in common? Both will be at the Cheer Team Swap Meet on Saturday, May 15 on the school parking lot! All electronics are welcome to be dropped off from 9-noon. Let go of that old computer, cell phone or printer; clean off the data and bring it, working or not, to the electronics station. All you clever technical folks may take what you want. The rest of us will feel great knowing that Staples will take what’s left and recycle it. So many good toys that should find a new home! Don’t send them to rot in a landfill! Drop off gently used toys in the morning - clean and easily repaired, if broken. Little ones and their families are invited to “shop” for free items in the afternoon. What’s left will go to Cradles to Crayons, a non-profit, and find a new home. Now that’s a great lesson in recycling and helping others Letter To the MosquitoTo the Editor: The Carlisle Cheer Project is hard at work planning Swap Meet III on Saturday, May 15, under the solar panels at the Carlisle School. What’s new this time? ● More non-profits are signed up to take usable items that are left at the end of the day: ● Habitat for Humanity for household goods and building materials, ● Bike Connector for, you guessed it, bikes that they will repair and donate, ● Staples -- all electronics/printers except tv’s will be properly recycled, ● Cradles to Crayons will receive toys/games/puzzles, ● More Than Words will receive books (no textbooks), CDs, DVDs, and video tapes, (Gleason Library volunteers will be coordinating this area) ● The United Woman’s Club of Concord (“Jewel Queens”) will collect jewelry and all leftover textiles will go into the collection bins near the school. What can you do to help? ● When you next find yourself rushing to the Transfer Station to unload a useful item outside the Swap Shed (still officially closed), STOP! Did you know that anything unclaimed goes into the trash at the end of the day? What a shame! Instead, please drop off these items at the Swap Meet, Saturday morning, May 15 so a neighbor or non-profit organization can use them. ● Sign up to volunteer for a few hours at our safe, outdoor community event filled with laughter, high spirits, and lots of treasure hunting! (Teens may earn community service credit.) https://www.signupgenius.com/go/508094dabac28a20-swap The Swap Meet is fun and helps us clear out our attics and garages. It also helps people in need and reduces what goes into our trash. This is great for the environment, saves the town money on trash removal and brings cheer to all of us. |
Keeping it safe at the Swap Meet!
While it is great to be able to see our friends and neighbors at an event like the Swap Meet, it is essential that we remember to observe COVID-19 safety protocols. Please...
- Wear a mask at all times
- Observe safe distancing from other individuals
- Keep your hands off your face until you can wash them
- Wash your hands with soap and water as soon as you get home
- Enter through the correct entrance at the field, and prepared to wait in your car if the maximum number of people are on the field
